The Issue
SMT was using an inventory system running in MS Access that was written in the mid-90s. Our inventory for on-site events was written in PalmOS and then downloaded via RS232 into a Windows app, when then had to be exported, emailed back to the office, then imported into the other system. Our equipment and staffing logistics were handled in multiple Excel spreadsheets that were huge. None of it was integrated. After some acquisitions, we were 3 divisions, each with their own systems.
The Solution
We now run R2 for our inventory and equipment logistics. All 3 divisions are able to see the complete inventory. Our event staff run a mobile app that directly updates the R2 database so everything is live. We have also written an app that utilizes the R2 API which again, is live into the database. We will be bringing our staffing logistics into R2 shortly. We are also starting to use the Service module to track our equipment repairs. The R2 system is comprehensive and has modules like Truck logistics that we are just beginning to look at.
